What actually separates the options
Built for enterprise GCs, or for a smaller team?
Procore and similar platforms are built assuming dozens of concurrent projects and dedicated admin staff to configure them. If that is not your company, the per-user pricing and setup time rarely pay off.
Free tier, or free trial?
"Free construction management software" usually means a capped free tier — a handful of projects or users — not a real production tool. Fine for testing the workflow, not for running the company on long-term.
Does it work with your existing process, or replace it?
The platforms that get abandoned within a year are almost always the ones that demanded the team change how they work before showing any value. Look for one that starts with the single workflow costing you the most time today.
Mobile-first, or desktop with a mobile app bolted on?
Field crews need to log a daily report or answer an RFI from a phone with no signal on site. A platform that is really a desktop tool with a limited mobile companion will not get used where it matters most.
