What is the REBT?
The REBT (Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation) is the state regulation that governs the design, execution and maintenance of low voltage electrical installations, those found in virtually all homes, premises and building projects in Spain.
It is structured in general articles and a set of Complementary Technical Instructions (ITC-BT), each focused on a specific aspect of the installation: from the connection to public concourse areas or pool installations.
What installations does it affect on a project?
It affects any low voltage electrical installation executed on the project: connection, main control and protection board, individual branches, interior installation of each home or premises, and common building installations (elevator, common area lighting, etc.).
The level of documentation requirement varies depending on the type of installation, it is not the same a single-family home as a public gathering place or an installation with more than a certain number of supply points, which require specific electrical design, not just technical report.
What documentation does the REBT require on a project?
For simple installations a technical design report is sufficient: for larger ones a electrical design signed by a qualified professional is necessary. In both cases, the installation must finish with an Electrical Installation Certificate (bulletin) issued by the authorized installer.
This bulletin is what is presented to the competent autonomous regional body for industry to register the installation, and is a usual requirement to request the permanent electrical supply and to process the building first occupancy license.
