Who it's for
AutoCAD remains the most widely used technical drawing tool in engineering and construction. AI doesn't draw in AutoCAD, at least not reliably yet, but it can handle all the documentation that surrounds the drawings: design reports, material lists, technical specifications, communications to site and technical responses to drawing queries.
This framework sets out a three-step workflow: how to extract structured information from AutoCAD drawings (legends, notes, dimensions, code references), how to structure that information for AI to process efficiently, and how to generate the resulting technical documentation at the right level of detail.
It includes prompt templates for the most common documents: MEP drawing reports, technical specifications for materials referenced in drawings, finish schedules for housing or commercial units, drawing change communications to site, and technical responses to drawing queries received from construction companies.
When a drawing changes, that change doesn't stay in the drawing alone: the report needs revising, so does the finish schedule, and sometimes the budget. With this framework, each of those documents gets regenerated separately, repeating the extraction and the corresponding prompt. Bloqbase doesn't treat the report and budget as documents separate from the rest of the project: they share the same takeoffs, so an update doesn't mean repeating the process once for each affected document.
